1) Re: Target audience and information overload. I really wonder if Muslims are overloaded with information as much as we are. We are eager for information because as critical thinkers we like to have more information for research (than not enough) and we also value education and what it means to be informed. I don't think Muslims (in the ME) share these values (unfortunately for them otherwise they would be more versed in critical thinking skills as well as equipped with the resources and know-how necessary to arrive at a conclusion with the assistance of independent investigative research). Moreover, in re: that a lot of what they do read-I gather- is injected with Islamic values & opinions -- filtered for Islamic ingestion. Those educated in Madrassah don't seem to know what to do with real research resources once presented with them. I mean, they don't seem to know or understand the concept of how to arrive at "the truth" and the the only truth is in the Quran. With this in mind, I believe the information overload is culture specific - with emphasis on the amount of priority or value they place on integrity and quality of information they DO have access to.
2) Assuming the target is top down - the bridge will be burnt as it is being erected. Afraid the imams and clerics will use their power against it- condemn it as blasphemy - it's reputation will precede it and it's consumption will arrive with foregone conclusions.
3) You can expect this creative "bridge building" endeavor to serve up a ball that would come right *smack* back and hit us in the face because they seem to be masterful at character assassination ( ie Geert W and S. Rushdie) no matter how "logical" the argument.
4) The kids sitting in the Madrassah's would go from the floor to a desk with a pen and paper in hand - like the monks and Jewish scribes - and be the ones taught to produce the Quran itself. Who makes it their business in the ME to produce the printing press Qurans? (The Saudis with their oil $ is my guess - which brings me to my next point:
5) Im curious to know the direct relationship between the increase of OPEC oil revenues as compared with the numbers of new Muslim converts (aka "reverts") gained during that same time period -- century contrast. Of course the $ for weapons would figure in since they force conversion but it would still be an interesting display.
